I’ll try to keep it short!

Hopefully, the San Diego Padres can hold off those pesky San Francisco Giants over the next few days to win the NL West/Worst!  The Pads just went up 9-6 in the second game of their four game series in the bottom of the 4th inning.

How ’bout those USC Trojans?!  They crushed the Oregon Ducks’ quack attack in the second half of their 45-13 victory at Autzen Stadium.  “The President” Reggie Bush only needed one cleat to shake ‘n’ bake/break the ankles of/juke a hapless Duck defender.  Reggie is so quick (4.28 second 40-yard dash speed according to last week’s Sporting News magazine which featured him on the cover) he shot out of his right cleat when the ball was snapped on this play! Next up: the #14-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 1 AM PDT on ABC.

My track day at the Streets of Willow Springs on Friday went very well!  No offs or spins.  Nick Lui (Xanga: sup cuz) came with me and rode as my passenger in 4 out of the 5 sessions I ran.  He didn’t ride with me in my 3rd session because he went with someone else who had a legendary AE86.  In that 3rd session, I had my favorite moment of the day!  I had a HUGE slide when I was taking turn 1 (the “kink” to the right on the front straightaway going uphill) flat out (as in not lifting off the gas) at about 90 mph.  I was probably 30-40 degrees sideways or at least it felt like it!  I naturally began to try to lift my right foot, but immediately told myself, “I have all-wheel drive.  Floor it!”  So I mashed the gas back down and steered into the slide with some steering input to the left (just the right amount mind you, too little wouldn’t get me out of the slide and too much could possible shoot me straight off the left side of the track.  I was still able to brake and downshift into 2nd gear for turn 2 without any major difficulty too!  I also had a great time “tossing” and sliding the car through the last part of the chicane which bends to the left on the back straight.  I put in almost $50.00 of 100 octane unleaded (VP Racing Fuels www.vpracingfuels.com. EDIT: updated link thanks to Brent Chun) in on Thursday night at $5.959/gallon at the Unocal 76 on Arroyo and Glenarm in Pasadena.  I also went through 1-3/4 tank and my front brake pads at the track as well.  It’s like the ol’ saying, ya gotta pay to play!  See the track map below in my last post for reference regarding which turn is where.  No pictures this time, folks!

Public Service Announcement/My $0.02:
The government should require ALL people to at least attend one open track day and reason some on-track and classroom instruction on handling a person’s car at the limits at the soon-to-be-driver’s expense when undergoing driver’s education/training.  In the early weeks and months of having my all-wheel drive vehicle, I may not have been able to do what I did when I had that “moment.”  It’s so natural to lift off the gas and/or apply the brakes.  I learned the “hard” way when I had a harmless spin on the 60 West  going about 70 mph dodging some tire debris back in May 2004 on a Wednesday night around 11 PM.  I was swerving around some tire debris (back then, I was still on my stock springs compared to now also) and got on the brakes when I dodged the second “portion” of debris.  Hitting the brakes shifted more weight up front (the car already has a 60/40 front/rear weight distribution for starters) and made the back really light.  Combine that with some turning and it isn’t too difficulty for the back end to go around.  I did a 900 deg spin without hitting anything and went on my way back home-shaken not stirred.

Church: It’s great being around high schoolers so much!  Thanks to God for the youth He’s placed in my and the other staff members’ lives!  We love ya’ll!   TTP (Sunday School Teacher Training Program) has 0wn3d me like USC has its last three bowl game opponents.  It’s okay, because the end goal is so totally worth it!

By the way, I’m calling all my fellow Trojans out there to join me in coining the usage of the word “USC!”  From now on “USC” will be synonymous with words such as annihilate, wax, dominate, destroy, etc.  For example, The USC Trojans have gone USC on the UCLA Bruins the last six years in a row!  Everyone, join me and FIGHT ON!

Work: I’ve actually been enjoying my work a lot the last couple of weeks!  Praise the Lord!

Attention Toyota owners/drivers!
I heard on the radio if you get your Toyota serviced at your local Southern California Toyota dealer for $70.00 or more, you can receive 4 free tickets to the October 16th Toyota Indy 400 at California Speedway in Fontana, CA for the Indy Racing League race.  If you can help me out, I’d really appreciate it!  Who wouldn’t want to catch some 220 mph action?!  Yeah yeah…they’re going around in circles (technically ELLIPSES), but they’re doing it much faster than (most of) you would ever dare to drive!  200 mph = 1 football field per second.

In closing, these long post probably are the reason why I don’t post as often!

Magnificent Obsession
By Steven Curtis Chapman from the album Declaration (©2001 Sparrow Records)

Lord, You know how much
I want to know so much
In the way of answers and explanations
I have cried and prayed
And still I seem to stay
In the middle of life’s complications
All this pursuing leaves me feeling
like I’m chasing down the wind
But now it’s brought me back to You
And I can see again

This is everything I want
This is everything I need
I want this to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You, Jesus
Be my magnificent obsession

So capture my heart again
Take me to depths I’ve never been
Into the riches of Your grace and Your mercy
Return me to the cross
And let me be completely lost
In the wonder of the love
That You’ve shown me
Cut through these chains that tie
me down to so many lesser things
Let all my dreams fall to the ground
Until this one remains

You are everything I want
And You are everything I need
Lord, You are all my heart desires
You are everything to me

You are everything I want
You are everything I need
I want You to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You
I want it all to be for You

the NL West is definitely the NL Worst. some of the best teams in baseball will not make it to the playoffs, but the padres / giants will? Ah, who said things were fair. hehe.Dude, praise God you’ve been finding joy in your work!

I was wondering how your track day went. That must have been exciting having oversteer in turn one. Not lifting – You’re ready for Eau Rouge! I did a 2 day event in my Miata at the Streets. The track configuration was like a large slalom course, so I had fun when I beat up on a Corvette Z06 in the turns, until the straight came and he rumbled off into the distance, and then I would reel him in again in the turns. Besides having fun, I learned a lot from the instructors.VP Racing fuel, interesting – BTW, it is vpracingfuels.com Although vpracing.com is interesting too. 🙂
