I’ve been meaning to throw this out for a couple of weeks now.  If anyone can help me completely understand Genesis 3:1, that’d be super!  I’m specifically refering to how it says the serpent was more crafty than any of the creatures God had created.  I haven’t lost sleep over it or anything like that.  I just want to fully understand what Moses (and ultimately God) meant here.

I had an AWESOME time at church today!  Nothing really extraordinary happened.  It just felt so great to be there!  Thanks to Steve for helping us truly worship our great God.  Thanks to Jerry for bringing God’s truth to us in Fairway through His word.  I was reminded of how easily I can worship false idols (cars, video games, seeking to be comfortable) instead of making myself an open door for the King of Glory to enter as we sang on Friday night.  Thanks to Ted for opening up the home God has provided you and your family with to all of us-time and time again.  This time for small group leader training.  I still had a long day today, but being at your home made me feel like I wasn’t at church all day like a regular work day.

HELP NEEDED!
Our church’s high school ministry needs (not wants–needs) help in two areas.  The first would be female volunteers (upperclassman in college and older) to fill the role of Friday night counselor and small group leader.  The second would be a female servant to take soon-to-be-mom Jackie Hwang’s place in teaching the freshman Sunday School class.  Naturally, for this there are more requirements and qualifications.  If you think and feel God wants to use you (yes, YOU!) or anyone you know, please contact Jerry, Hanley, Jackie, or anyone else on staff.  I will be candid in saying that it may very well take some sacrifice on people’s part to help out, but when you get down to the nitty gritty, the nuts and bolts, the meat and potatoes, people’s lives can definitely be impacted for the better if people take a step (or leap!) of faith and think and say, “I know I’m busy with school/so tired from work, but God, let’s do this for Your glory, honor, and praise!”  Please boldly pray for our God to provide for His children in this way!  Thanks!

Now I’d like to thank the time to appreciate in written form all those who serve our God by outwardly serving Him with their lives.  Ya’ll have made sacrifices to serve Him and His people.  I have the upmost respect and admiration not only for what you do, but also for being the people who God made you to be–full of love, grace, compassion, mercy, faith, hope, courage, kindness, goodness, and joy.  You are some of the unsung heroes that make this world turn.  Thanks to you all for being fools in the world’s eyes, to be wise in our Lord’s!

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 (New American Standard Bible)

Let no man deceive himself.  If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.  For it is written, “He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS”; and again, “The Lord KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS.”

Another video (HERE) from my track day aboard a fellow Scooby driver’s 2005 WRX STi in the intermediate session following a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution…this one is higher-resolution, folks!

For some odd reason unbeknown to me, I’m really looking forward to Easter this year!  Last week, I had somehow convinced myself that yesterday (March 13, 2005) was Palm Sunday even though Easter is still two weeks off!  Let us never forget what and Who Easter is really about.  Thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!

2005 Rally Mexico

Congratulations to Subaru World Rally Team’s Petter Solberg and Phil Mills (co-driver) who notched their second victory of the year in this weekend’s Rally Mexico round of the World Rally Championship (WRC)!  Petter is now leading the Driver’s Championship with 20 points and Subaru is currently fourth in the Manufacturer’s Championship with 20 points (all the points this season have been scored by Petter & Phil so far).

Only A Fool
words and music by Geoff Moore & The Distance from the album Threads (©1997 ForeFront Records)

Charlie was a fool
Did you hear what he went and did
He quit his job, threw it away
Gave his life to a bunch of kids
He said he was in love with Jesus
But his friends didn’t understand
He could’ve had it all
But he just smiled and said that he already did

He saw the big in the small
He saw the beauty in the call
Even when no one else approved
He took the job only a fool would do

Sarah was a beauty queen
Miss Something or another
She took off her crown, rolled up her sleeves
Gave her life on a mission to others
She said she was in love in Jesus
But her friends called her “fool”
They said she’d never find happiness
She just looked at them and smiled
And said she already did

She saw the big in the small
She saw the beauty in the call
Even when no one else approved
She took the job only a fool would do

The way of the world
The way of the wise
The way of the truth is to realize
Wisdom will only come through
To those who are only a fool

Show me the big in the small
Show me the beauty in the call
Show me the road that I should choose
I’ll take the job only a fool could do

Show me the big in the small
Show me the wonder of my call
Even when no one else approves
I’ll take the job of only a fool
Only a fool
Only a fool

EDIT: fixed some typos here and there

Quick post this morning

Romans 15:13 (New International Version)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Great small group time tonight!  I was encouraged!  I am now determined!

Hebrews 12:1-2

It’s late…I’ll try to keep it short.

From California Speedway – March 5, 2005

My first track day ever was this past Saturday on the infield road course at California Speedway!  I DOMINATED the beginner group by easily being the fastest car out there!  I had an instructor ride with me and say, “Are you sure you’ve never done this before?” and, “You should be in the intermediate group.”   No spins or really scary moments over my 2+ hours of track time over five sessions.  I reached speeds of about 105 mph down the front straightaway and almost 100 mph on the back straightaway.  I drove the whole track in 2nd gear except for the straightaways where I got up to fourth.  I was faster than (the following are cars that should be faster than me in the right hands/feet) at least two Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, at least one Subaru Impreza WRX STi, a Nissan 350Z, a BMW Z4, a Volkswagen R32, and cars that should’ve been equal or slower to me in speed (before factoring in driver skill of course).  In the last session (my best one!) from 4:30-5:00 PM, I was getting really low on fuel and even though my fuel warning light wasn’t on, I still had fuel pickup hiccups once a lap on my last three or four laps otherwise they probably would’ve been in the 1:25’s as well.  Someone also kicked up some dirt on the track by cutting the corner leading onto the back straightaway.  It was cool that my car’s all-wheel drive would instantly kick in and I could keep my right foot mashed on the gas!

I feel the need…

Setting up a Toyota MR2 for a pass

…the need for speed

Turning a lap during one of the morning sessions…man, I love the fact that palm trees line the oval’s back straightaway!

My lap times over 5 sessions (the first one I only had time for 2 laps behind a pack of cars) – Best lap – Lap 54 – 1:25.58 (almost missed it when recording my lap times!)

Here’s an onboard video shot by someone in the intermediate group with a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi – HERE (less than 1 MB, Windows Media Video format).  I was easily turning faster lap times than the yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in the video because the same car was out during a beginner session as well (beginner 4th session if I remember correctly) and I was reeling him in like a fisherman bringing in a trophy bass!

As much fun as my track day was, I will easily concede that it was not the most important thing going on that day…
1) Continued work at the Wong residence (not my family)
2) Union Rescue Mission volunteering that evening
3) Uncle Chris’ memorial service in NorCal that my parents attended

On the inside left page of Uncle Chris Wong’s (July 16, 1946 – February 20, 2005) program was Romans 8:31-35, 37-39.  This post and song is dedicated to him.  He was a man who:
-loved God
-loved his family as a father of five (four adopted! ) and husband
-was a faithful friend
-lived to tell of God’s own Son
-helped others remember the truth of Jesus’ love

When all is said and done

New song in response to tonight’s message in Unikoi from John 15!

It’s “Signs of Life” by Steven Curtis Chapman off the album Signs of Life (©1996 Sparrow Records).

These are the signs
These are the signs of life
The love that proves there is a living faith of inside
These are the signs
These are the signs of life
Compassion and concern
Is gonna make this world keep turning

An empty void from the heart
Where the grace of God has left its mark

The living proof of a faith inside
These are the signs of life

It’s been way too long since I updated this page.  A good amount of my free time has gone into Gran Turismo 4.

Web site of the day: www.invisiblechildren.com – Thanks, Cara, for introducing this site about the children of Sudan to me!
It’s amazing what so many children endure throughout the rest of the world.  What’s stopping you from putting your own love and the love God’s shown you into action?

Here’s one of the many ways you can do so!

I would like to commend all the youth at church who made a decision that “True Love Waits”.  Whether you did it explicitly or not, that’s not the most important thing.  The most important thing is that you made a commitment, a vow, with our God to obey His will to remain sexually pure until you are married.  I’ll be praying for ya’ll!

“Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to a lifetime of purity including sexual abstinence from this day until the day I enter a biblical marriage relationship.”

The Five Commitments of True Love Waits

To God: Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
To Yourself: Matthew 22:39 “And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
To Family: Philippians 4:5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
To Friends: John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
To Future Mate and Children: 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Here are some pics from the True Love Waits Rally at Six Flags Magic Mountain back on February 13, 1999.  Yes, that guy on stage is Geoff Moore (and his old guitarist from The Distance, Roscoe Meek)!

Geoff singing or speaking

Here is a picture of our youth group (in 1999) with GM!  I’m not in the picture because I was taking it!  I haven’t seen some of the people in it for so many years now.    That was a wonderful day!  Jerry Tom and I picked Geoff, Roscoe, and Geoff’s manager at the time, James, up from LAX in the morning, drove them to Magic Mountain, and after the True Love Waits rally was over, back to the Holiday Inn by LAX!  They’re just normal folks like you and me!

I read the book of Malachi last night to complete reading the Old Testament of the Bible.  The thing that stuck out to me the most is how people were giving our God crummy offerings.  I believe this was a check for myself regarding the fact that I am to live my life as a holy and acceptable offering to God.  Because of that, I decided now would be a good time to get a little Third Day playing on my page.  Mac Powell’s left-handedness and awesome voice make the group a worthy candidate to be on my Xanga.  Their keyboardist on tour sometimes is Geof Barkley who used to be Geoff’s keyboardist as a member of The Distance!

Romans 12:1-2 says:
1Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

High school seniors, I’m sorry about what happened in Sunday School on Sunday.  When we pick up on things in two weeks, things should be good!  Thanks to those of you who encouraged me afterward!

The New 2006 3 Series micro site (Macromedia Flash Player required) – HERE

I signed up to drive BMW’s new 2006 3 Series (chassis code: E90) on Friday, May 13, 2005 (whoa!  I just realized that’s Friday the 13th!  I used to be superstitious as a kid, but God took care of that in me!  Btw, the fear of the number “13” is called “triskaidekaphobia”.  That’s a Scrabble™ keeper, ya’ll!) at the Wild Rivers parking lot in Irvine, CA.  That should be a BLAST!  BMW’s facelifted flagship 2006 7 Series (E65/E66) will also be there for a quick look during lunch as well.

That day’s agenda in Adobe Acrobat format – HERE

My first track day is coming up this Saturday on the infield road course at California Speedway in Fontana, CA!  Someone from NASIOC.com (North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club) offerred to take pictures of me on the track in my Scooby!

Last but definitely not least, please continue to pray for:
1) Wilson Mark – concussion and bleeding suffered after a dirtbike accident last Saturday (wife – Patty, children – Kimmie, Kristen, and Willie)
2) The Wong (no relation – Henry, Lillian, Adrian, and Matthew) and Markewicz (Alan and Rebecca (I think)) families whose homes were greatly affected (mud slides mainly) by the inclement weather Southern California has had lately.

Take My Life
by Third Day

How many times have I turned away
The number is the same as the sand on the shore
Every time You’ve taken me back
And now I pray You do it once more

Chorus
Please take from me my life
When I don’t have the strength
To give it away to You
Please take from me my life
When I don’t have the strength
To give it away to You, Jesus

How many times have I gone astray
The number is the same as the stars in the skies
Every time You’ve taken me back
And now I pray You do it tonight

(Chorus)

YEAH!  Ya’ll sound great!  It’s AWESOME!
