As I was driving home tonight, the thought that filled my mind was, “How are potholes formed?”  I’ve always been interested.  I just never took the time to look it up.  My most recent fascination with potholes started on Sunday night as I drove home in the rain around 7 PM.  I was cruising along in the left lane around the Crossroads Parkway exit of the Pomona (60) Freeway going Westbound when I heard and felt two loud bangs that jolted the entire chassis of the car.  When I got home, I checked for wheel/tire damage, but there didn’t appear to be any.  It’s assuring to know that the wheels on my car (Prodrive P1’s 17″ x 7″ made for Prodrive by OZ Racing (Italy)) are rally-inspired!  At roughly 20 lbs. each, they’re heavy for 17-inch wheels, but they are supposedly one of the strongest wheels out there bar none!

Back on-topic, I searched the World Wide Web for some information on how potholes are formed.  Here is my visual, easy-to-understand result:

Birth of a Pothole (in Adobe Acrobat format – If you are unable to view the file, you can get Adobe Reader here) Courtesy of Michigan Department of Transportation.

I thought potholes were originally created simply by heavy vehicles driving over roads.  As you may be able to see, the (w)hole (pun intended) story goes deeper than that!

In closing, I figured I should type the lyrics to “God Follower” for ya’ll to understand why I chose this particular Xanga username.

God Follower
by Steven Curtis Chapman
from the album Declaration (Ā©2001 Sparrow Records)

My heart is restless as I wander through this jungle
The trees above refuse to let the sunlight through
And somewhere deep inside I hear the whispered longings
That tell me I was made for more than this
A lightning flash, a light falls down into the darkness
Slowly I notice strange new markings on the trail
The crimson dots are calling out to me, “Come and follow.”
“I am the God who made you.  Let Me show you how to live.”
And I cry

I want to be a God follower
I want to go wherever He leads
I want to be a God follower
I want to walk the trail He’s marked for me
And be a God follower

And now I journey on with purpose and with passion
Just like a dead man who’s been given breath again
And though this path can still grow dark with tears and sorrow
I know He will never leave me
So with everything I am
I will say

And when I reach God’s place
I will look into His face
Then I’d look for you
Will I find you there?
Then you’d say with me
“I want to be a God follower.”

I want to be…
More than anything…
I want to be…a God follower

I’m looking forward to small group tomorrow night!  Fight on, take care, and God bless!
